Why add real Honey to your skincare routine?

So this will not be news to many of you, but honey has amazing benefits for the skin! We often add honey to our diy recipes as well as our Honey Cleansing Balm because the results are there. Skin is smoother, brighter, healthier, perky (the list goes on and on).

So what does honey actually do to our skin to make it glow?

Honey is highly anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal.

Honey is one of the most anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal ingredient you can use for on your skin to tackle blemishes and other skin conditions as well as extend the preservation of your skincare products (check out our blog post about natural skincare preservatives). So much so in fact that for hundreds and hundreds of years, honey replaced antibiotics to prevent infections and speed up wound healing. Our ancestors used honey to dress wounds and prevent infections and it worked beautifully! It is therefore a trusted ally to prevent and heal blemishes and acne.

Honey is anti-inflammatory

Honey has amazing anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe the skin as well as tone down redness and irritation. Whether the redness and inflammation is linked to acne, skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis or simply a cute or scrape, honey will be right up in there to help the healing process.

Honey is hydrating and moisturising

This is one thing that many people don’t know about honey, it is actually very moisturising for the skin! Honey will leave your skin radiant, soft and glowing.

Honey is a gentle exfoliator

Thanks to its natural granulated sugar content, raw honey helps gently exfoliate the skin and increase skin cell renewal

Honey helps fade scars, sun and age spots

So sadly we are not talking about deep set scars that you have had since you were a kid. But if you suffer from Post Acne Hyper-pigmentation (those dreaded dark spots that linger long after blemishes have healed, sometimes up to a year!), well honey can help big time. Honey naturally contains trace amounts of hydrogen peroxide which helps lighten dark spots caused by both Post Acne Hyper-pigmentation as well as sun spots and age spots.
